What
is Healthy Kids?
Healthy Kids is a health insurance program for low-income children in Santa Clara County. Administered by Santa Clara Family Health Plan, a public agency (not-for-profit), Healthy Kids - the first program of its kind in the nation - fills the gap created by stringent eligibility requirements of Medi-Cal and Healthy Families. Unlike Medi-Cal and Healthy Families, Healthy Kids accepts children regardless of their immigration status.
see: " Who is eligible for Healthy Kids?"
Modeled after the Healthy Families program, Healthy Kids provides comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and mental health coverage to eligible children. The program is designed to be affordable, and SCFHP maintains a hardship fund for premium assistance when families experience unusual financial difficulties.

Children enrolled in Healthy Kids receive services in their native language through SCFHP's extensive provider network.

SCFHP strives to keep annual premium costs low, absorbing virtually all administrative costs and maximizing the amount of money allocated to the provision of care. Because of that, the Healthy Kids program is able to offer benefits virtually identical to those offered by Healthy Families while maintaining expenses at a reasonable level. The program has been so successful that it has been used as a model for the implementation of similar programs throughout
the state.
